Hemmens task force applicants sought

The city of Elgin is seeking applicants for a new Hemmens Cultural Center Task Force, which will examine the long-term facility and programming needs of the Hemmens Cultural Center.

The task force will be responsible for providing recommendations to the mayor and city council regarding the future needs and uses of the Hemmens, the cornerstone of the city's arts community at 45 Symphony Way.

The committee will consist of 13 members, including technical experts in performing arts and facility management as well as additional community members, patrons and renters who have an interest in the Hemmens, which opened in 1969 and is the performance home of the Elgin Symphony Orchestra.

The task force will examine the 1,200-seat facility's staffing and programming as well as the expenditures associated with them in determining revenue needs. The task force will also be asked to help establish long-term plans for the next 10 to 20 years.

The deadline to submit an application is 5 p.m. Monday. To submit an application, contact the city clerk's office at (847) 931-5660 or apply at cityofelgin.org.
