The Buffalo Grove Park District Environmental Action Team is currently taking orders for rain barrels and composters, which will be available for pickup from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 5, at Mike Rylko Community Park. These 55 gallon barrels come is variety of colors and cost $60 each. Each barrel comes with a spigot, is insect resistant and easy to install. Accessories are also available.

Rain barrels must be preordered before Friday, March 28. No barrels will be sold on pickup day. Order forms are available the Alcott Center or by visiting bgparks.org.

Using rain barrels benefits the environment by reducing sewer runoff, helping gardens and landscape thrive, reducing water bills, and reducing stress on our water supply. Rain water is a great source of water for home gardens. It is free, can be used anytime, and it is actually higher quality than the water that comes from the faucet. Fluoride and chlorine are not desired by plants, and rain water does not contain the chlorine and fluoride that is in the water we use in our homes.
