Pretrial hearing in Chicago terrorism case
There's a pretrial hearing for a Chicago terrorism suspect whose case has drawn national attention after a judge granted defense lawyers permission to see documents submitted to a secret intelligence court.
Wednesday's hearing at U.S District Court in Chicago could set a new trial date for Adel Daoud. He's pleaded not guilty to seeking to set off a bomb outside a downtown Chicago bar.
The previous trial date was April 7. But Judge Sharon Johnson Coleman cancelled that date because of legal disputes over the secret documents.
Coleman ruled in January that defense attorneys should be able to see documents prosecutors submitted to the U.S. Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court justifying their secret surveillance of Daoud.
But earlier this month, she stayed that unprecedented decision as prosecutors appeal her ruling.
