London girls basketball goes undefeated again, takes title

The eighth-grade girls basketball team from Jack London in Wheeling clinched the title again for the 2013-2014 Mid Suburban Athletic Conference championship.

In 2012-2013, it was the seventh-grade team from London that were the Conference champions. The recorded last team to win Conference from Jack London was in 1996.

The schools in the conference are Lincoln and River Trails, both in Mount Prospect; Cooper in Buffalo Grove; MacArthur in Prospect Heights; St. Peter Lutheran in Arlington Heights; and Holmes and Jack London in Wheeling.

What is remarkable about this team is that they have had an undefeated conference season two years in a row, which has never been done by any team at London. London's eighth-grade girls team finished their season with an impressive record of 27-0.

"A super team that showed great passion and love of the game", said Bill Henderson, their coach for the last two years. "They showed up to play to win every game. These girls were the best team I ever coached."

"As parents, we were so proud of this team's accomplishments. The girls played with determination and perseverance at every game. The team showed great sportsmanship and teamwork was a key element," said London parent Lisa Cesek. "They truly deserve the recognition to be the Mid Suburban Athletic Conference Championship title".

"These girls cared for their teammates and showed great respect to myself as coach for the team," said Henderson.

As they graduate this spring, their conference banner hanging in the schools gymnasium, will be a testament of all their hard work and a reminder to their school of what an great team they were in 2012-2014.
