Hoffman Estates man pleads guilty to home invasion, sexual assault

A Hoffman Estates man faces a 16-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to home invasion and sexual assault, court records show.

A Cook County judge last week sentenced Stephen Delgado, 20, to eight years for home invasion and eight years for aggravated criminal sexual assault, to be served consecutively. Additionally the judge ordered Delgado to pay $1,404 in fines and to register as a sex offender upon his release.

On Feb. 6, 2013, Delgado entered the victim's home in Hoffman Estates and molested her as she slept on a living room couch, prosecutors said during his bond hearing last year. When the woman awoke and began screaming, Delgado threatened to kill her if she said anything. He fled after she continued to scream, prosecutors said.

Police identified Delgado after they recovered a sales receipt with a partial debit card number belonging to him, authorities said.

Delgado received credit for 378 days in custody.
