Considers remark in wake of fire tasteless

I cannot believe that anyone, anywhere, let alone someone who is supposed to be a responsible public official, would treat the tragedy of a fire destroying people's homes and belongings, the businesses of many and the heartache they all endure with such a blithe, stupid statement:

"'The restaurant is, can we say, toast,' Village Manager Michael Janonis said."

Is this what the Village of Mount Prospect thinks of tragedies, it is just a big joke and who can come up with the funniest line to describe it? What is wrong with you?

Michael Janonis not only owes an apology to all of those directly involved in this horrific event but to all of the residents of Mount Prospect for embarrassing us publicly and making it appear that this a place with no sympathy or concern for those in need. He does not belong in a position that might influence anyone.

The Daily Herald is equally at fault for using this as their headline. How could anyone on the editorial board could even think (obviously they were not thinking) this was amusing and cute and something that people wanted to read is beyond me.

What type of readers do you believe subscribe to this paper? People who care nothing about others except to joke about their tragedies? Did they think people needed a good laugh at the expense of others?

The Daily Herald and the Village of Mount Prospect were both disgraceful in their wanton disregard for human sensitivity and values today.
