Palatine family law attorney launches $2,500 in scholarships for college-bound Chicagoland

The Law Office of Nicholas W. Richardson, P.C. will offer scholarships to help local graduating high school seniors pay for their advanced education, including college, nursing, business, trade, technical training and other similar programs.

The awards program includes four scholarships: one grand-prize scholarship worth $1,300; one first runner-up worth $700; and two honorable mentions, valued at $250 each.

"Of the hundreds of families I've worked with in Chicago's Northwest suburbs, I know most are concerned about how or if they can help their kids with college," says Family Law Attorney Nicholas W. Richardson. "Given my area of focus, I figured giving back through a scholarship program made sense."

Open to high school seniors residing in Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake and McHenry counties, students must submit a 500-word essay on how the Bill of Rights affects their daily lives. The first 50 entrants will receive a copy of College PaperBuddy.

"In today's tech-focused world, the craft of writing sometimes is overlooked," says Richardson, who has been in practice for 10 years. "But being able to draft a well-written article, email or business letter is critical in today's workplaces and those of tomorrow. College PaperBuddy provides practical tips to help students earn better grades in a quick, friendly format and makes for a perfect giveaway for my scholarship program."

Attorney Richardson is grateful for all the support he's received since opening his own law office in 2009. "Giving back is important to me personally just as the law is to me professionally," he adds. "Combining the two makes sense. As an undergraduate journalism major, I spent a lot of time writing, and as an attorney, I'm constantly writing."

All essays must be submitted through the entry form on his website, where complete rules are also available. All submissions must be received by April 1, and winners will be notified by email by Tuesday, April 22. Winners will also be mentioned on the law office's Facebook page, and their essays posted there. Complete rules are available on the Scholarship Intake Form. Immediate family members of current clients are ineligible.

Based in Palatine, Richardson helps families throughout Chicago's Northwest suburbs navigate numerous family law-related matters every day. His direct, straightforward approach resonates with his clients. Since his admission to the Bar of Illinois in 2004, Richardson has supported efforts within his community to help fight hunger and provide assistance to those in need.
