Indiana roads flooded from rainfall, melting snow
FORT WAYNE - Rainfall and melting snow are combining to flood some Indiana roadways.
The National Weather Service posted flood watches for several portions of the state Thursday as higher temperatures began melting some of the state's snowpack amid rain showers.
The weather service reported South Bend set a record daily maximum rainfall with 1.17 inches by Thursday afternoon. Storms entering the state Thursday evening brought the potential for more rainfall.
Several counties, particularly in western Indiana, posted travel watches Thursday recommending only essential travel because of flooded roads. Several other counties posted lower-level advisories suggesting motorists put off travel or to use caution if they did take to the roads.
