Murder trial begins for South suburban businessman
A South suburban businessman's trial on charges he killed his wife in September 2010 has started.
Prosecutors accuse 63-year-old Allan Kustok of Orland Park of shooting his wife in the head while she was sleeping. His trial in the death of 58-year-old Anita "Jeanie" Kustok began Friday.
Authorities accuse Kustok of wrapping his wife's body in bedding and a bathrobe and driving to a nearby hospital. The Southtown Star reports that Kustok says a gunshot woke him up and he found his wife dead next to him in their bed. The couple was married 34 years.
Opening statements were to begin Thursday. They were delayed until Friday because a defense attorney was injured when he slipped on ice outside the Bridgeview courthouse.
