Smash Mouth to headline Northwest Fourth Fest

Smash Mouth, a legendary rock band from San Jose, Calif., will headline the 2014 Northwest Fourth Fest on Saturday, July 5 at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates.

The major band of Fourth Fest is typically booked on a night other than the July 4 fireworks display, which is considered the biggest draw of that particular night, Hoffman Estates Mayor Bill McLeod said.

Smash Mouth is best known for hits “Walkin' on the Sun” and “All Star” from the late ‘90s, as well as covers of other popular songs like the Monkees' “I'm a Believer” and “Can't Get Enough of you Baby” by the band ? & the Mysterians.

Though other bands also will perform on the main stage from Thursday, July 3 through Saturday, July 5, Smash Mouth is the only one whose contract is of an amount requiring the recommendation of the village's finance committee and approval by the village board in March, Deputy Village Manager Dan O'Malley said.

On the first night of Northwest Fourth Fest — Thursday, July 3 — the band Heartache Tonight will perform from 7:30-10 p.m. with a break.

On Friday, July 4, Jump Taxi will play from 1:30-3 p.m.; Brian Lavender from 3:30-5:30 p.m.; Kashmir from 6-8 p.m.; and Modern Day Romeos from 8:30-11 p.m. with a break for the fireworks show.

On Saturday, July 5, North By Northwest will play from 4-5:30 p.m.; Mike & Joe from 6-8 p.m.; and Smash Mouth from 8:30-10:30 p.m.

All performances are free to the public.

The Northwest Fourth Fest carnival will continue on Sunday, July 6, but no musical acts are booked for that day, Sears Centre General Manager Ben Gibbs said.
