RTA chairman plans to step down in June

The chairman of the Regional Transportation Authority says he'll step down from the post this summer.

In a statement released Wednesday, the agency says John S. Gates Jr. won't run for re-election in June and is leaving the transit agency's board.

The 60-year-old was elected to the post in 2010. He is also chairman and CEO of PortaeCo LLC, a private investment company.

The RTA oversees Metra, the Chicago Transit Authority and Pace, the three Chicago area public transportation agencies.
