Scammers use lottery claim to steal from Mt. Prospect woman

Mount Prospect police are seeking two people who scammed an 82-year-old Mount Prospect woman out of money with false claims of a winning lottery ticket.

On Oct. 10, 2013, authorities said a woman approached the victim outside the Aldi grocery store at 730 E. Rand Road.

The woman and a man with her convinced the victim they had a winning lottery ticket worth $650,000 that they would split with her if she gave them money to help pay the taxes on the winnings.

The victim withdrew a large sum of money from her bank and gave it to the scammers, who left the area and never gave the victim any money.

Anyone with information regarding this crime is asked to call the Mount Prospect police at (847) 870-5654 or Mount Prospect Crime Stoppers at (847) 590-7867. You can also send a text a tip to police at 274637.
