Rutherford cancels ad reservations

SPRINGFIELD - Illinois Treasurer Dan Rutherford has canceled reservations for television ads touting his candidacy for the Republican gubernatorial nomination.

Spokeswoman Judy Pardonnet says the candidate from Chenoa decided not to run the ads in the time slots reserved throughout the state for next week.

Rutherford faces businessman Bruce Rauner and state Sens. Kirk Dillard and Bill Brady in the March primary.

A former treasurer employee has filed a federal lawsuit accusing Rutherford of sexual harassment and forcing him to do campaign work on state time.

Rutherford also faces questions about his workplace judgment after it was reported he shared hotel rooms with his executive assistant, which the treasurer says he did to save money.

Pardonnet says the move canceling ad reservations "doesn't mean there won't be more ads running."
