Indiana attorney general warns of home security scams

INDIANAPOLIS - Attorney General Greg Zoeller (ZEL'-ur) is warning Indiana residents to be wary of calls and door-to-door solicitors offering home security or alarm systems.

Zoeller says his office has received more than 150 complaints from people who got unwanted calls, including robocalls, offering home security systems. Zoeller says he has filed a lawsuit against the owner of a company responsible for some of those complaints and received a default judgment of $4.38 million in civil penalties.

Zoeller says the judgment marks the second highest total amount awarded to the state in a case involving telephone privacy violations, and his office will seek to cover those funds.
