Burglars steal $634,100 in coins in Des Plaines

A Des Plaines esident lost more than $600,000 in coins in a burglary that occurred sometime in the last eight months, police said in a blotter report.

According to the blotter report, the burglars stole the coins out of a locked safe between June 1 and Feb. 5 in a home on the 800 block of South Golf Cul de Sac. Stolen were 486 $50 gold coins, 1 ounce .9999 fine gold with a buffalo on one side and an Indian head on the other, and 115 silver coins, 1 ounce .999 fine silver with a buffalo on one side and an Indian head on the other,

Value was estimated at $634,100.

Police officers who might have additional information on the burglary couldn't be reached Friday.
