Christian Liberty nets regional semifinal win

Megan Sullivan started Wednesday's game by making a steal and an assist.

After that, she showed she could score points, too.

The Christian Liberty senior guard tossed in a team-high 17 points to help lead the top-seeded Chargers to a 58-32 triumph over No. 5 Chicago Waldorf in the Christian Liberty Class 1A semifinal in Arlington Heights.

After making the steal in the game's first 20 seconds, Sullivan took a few dribbles and made a perfect long pass to junior Mikala Pipping, who caught the ball in stride and went to the basket for a layup and 2-0 lead.

Pipping scored another layup in the first two minutes to give the Chargers a 4-0 lead and they never looked back while evening their record to 12-12 for coach Steve Rowland.

Sullivan finished the game with 8 assists, 7 steals and three 3-point baskets.

Pipping had a double-double with 10 rebounds and 14 points.

Chargers freshmen Isabella Wolke (6 steals) and Jasmine Marsh (8 rebounds, 5 steals, 4 steals) each chipped in 10 points.

Sophomore Samantha Amedin added 7 points and a 3-pointer.

Anyah Akanni had 31 of Waldorf's 32 points.

The Chargers will face Chicagoland Jewish High School from Deerfield in today's 7 p.m. championship.

No. 3 Chicagoland Jewish defeated No. 2 Cristo Rey St. Martin of Waukegan, 40-26, in Wednesday's second semifinal.
