Chicago man pleads guilty to Arlington Heights tire theft

A Chicago man involved in stealing tires from an Arlington Heights car dealership pleaded guilty.

Abel Villarreal-Garcia, 41, pleaded guilty Thursday in Rolling Meadows to an amended charge of misdemeanor theft and was sentenced to 40 days in Cook County Jail.

Beginning in late 2012, Arlington Heights police, in cooperation with Bob Rohrman Arlington Nissan, conducted an investigation into a series of tire thefts from the dealership. The investigation culminated in January 2013 when the GPS tracking device police installed in a spare tire led them to a Chicago address in the 5200 block of Winchester Avenue. The officers set up surveillance and watched as Terry Haygood, 41, handed tires to Villarreal-Garcia.

Haygood pleaded guilty to burglary last June and was sentenced to six years in prison.
