Learn to oil paint at Side Street Studio Arts
Submitted by Side Street Studio Arts
Side Street Studio Arts, 15 Ziegler Court in downtown Elgin, will host a Beginner’s Oil Painting Workshop taught by Elgin painter and Side Street Studio artist-intern Lindsey Wiseman from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15.
This class is specifically designed for beginners ages 16 and older. There is a $5 suggested donation at the door.
The workshop will not only allow participants a hands-on painting experience, but also cover safety guidelines for oil paint usage and disposal, how to paint an under painting or grisaille, how to layer color over an under painting, and more.
Basic supplies will be provided, and participants will be able to take home a 6-by-6-inch canvas.
Additionally, artists can feel free to bring their own work and supplies if they have any questions or would like feedback.
“Oil painting is not as difficult as it seems,” Wiseman said. “With a little knowledge of supplies and some practice pushing around paint, I think anyone can get the hang of it.”
Side Street Studio Arts, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, was founded in 2013 by Elgin residents Tanner Melvin and Erin Rehberg. Currently under the direction of Amanda Harris, Melvin, and Rehberg, it has become an outlet for the Elgin arts scene.
