Kane County Fair talent contest winner awarded first place in Springfield

Daniel Souvigny of Hampshire, who won first place in the Kane County Fair 2013 Talent Contest, Junior Division, recently won first place at the Illinois Association of Agricultural Fairs (IAAF) Official Talent Contest State Competition in Springfield, Illinois, on January 18, 2014.

Representing Kane County, the talented Souvigny performed a lively ragtime piano solo of Nagasaki and beat out 39 other junior participants from other counties across the State.

Emily Schmid of Geneva, first-place winner of the Senior Division, Kane County Fair 2013 Talent Contest also competed in Springfield with 37 other participants. While she did not place, her artistic dance solo to Titanium was well received.

The Illinois Association of Agricultural Fairs (IAAF) had seventy-eight talented acts compete in their talent finals.

George Fewkes, IAAF president, says, “The IAAF really appreciates all the excellent local talent. This competition showcases our youth and was a highlight during this 104th annual convention. The state winners will be performing at the Illinois State Fair which will be held on August 8-17, 2014.

“Kane County holds an abundance of youth talent,” said Larry Rossi, RPM Creative Music, coordinator of the Kane County Fair Talent Contest for the past 30 years. “Last year, Nicole DiSandro of Elburn won First Place in the Junior Competition at the Illinois Association of Agricultural Fair (IAAF) talent contest. She was the first place winner of the Junior Division of the 2012 Kane County Fair Talent Contest.”

“Our Kane County Fair Talent Contest offers our youth an opportunity to showcase their talents in a friendly competition and gives them self-confidence in performing before an audience,” added Rossi. “We encourage participation in this year’s Kane County Fair Talent Contest, which is open to a wide variety of talent and entertainment.”

The Kane County Fair Talent Contest is open to any person or group (school/organization) residing in Kane County. More details about the 2014 Kane County Fair Talent Contest competitions will be available soon. The first round is usually held in June and the Talent Contest will be held on Monday, July 14, 2014. The Kane County Fair will be held on July 16-20, 2014.
