Carmel Catholic handles Wauconda
Kathleen Felicelli scored 24 points to lead Carmel Catholic’s girls basketball team to a 66-51 win over host Wauconda in nonconference action Thursday night.
Emma Rappe added 17 points for Carmel (18-7), and Nicole Bitter contributed 7.
Lauren Nee scored 18 points for Wauconda (10-11), while Natalie Harding and Anna Wisniewski each had 8. The Bulldogs also received 3 steals apiece from Amber Head (7 rebounds) and Wisniewski.
Zion-Benton 41, Libertyville 32: The visiting Zee-Bees pulled out the North Suburban Lake contest, setting up a likely division showdown at Stevenson at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
Both the Zee-Bees and Patriots have 1 loss in the division. Stevenson visits Lake Forest in NSC Lake action tonight.
Carlie Fernandez led Zion-Benton with 15 points on five 3-pointers against Libertyville (8-17, 6-6), which played its division finale. Tyvena Scafe added 11 points for the Zee-Bees.
“We were able to come out in the first half and cover some of their offensive weapons,” Wildcats coach Greg Petersen said.
Maggie Piazzi scored a team-high 8 points for Libertyville, which led 9-6 after one quarter and trailed only 17-15 at halftime. Zion-Benton extended its lead to 30-25 heading into the fourth.
Round Lake 49, Woodlands Academy 31: The visiting Panthers picked up the nonconference win, as Mayra Payan scored 8 points.
Round Lake (5-21) received 7 points apiece from Raven Nicoline and Mike Crisantos, while Destiny Brown and Justice Clark each had 6.
Johnsburg 67, Grant 66: On Wednesday night, Trace Chase sank a game-ending, buzzer-beating layup, and Kayla Toussaint scored 31 points to lead the host Skyhawks in the nonconference game.
Kaylie Kanzler poured in a season-high 27 points for Grant (10-14), which led 14-7 after one quarter before getting outscored 27-11 in the second. Down 34-25 at halftime, the Bulldogs got within 46-40 after three and led by a point late until Chase’s heroics.
Jasmine Sangster and Jordynn Hundley added 15 and 11 points, respectively, for Grant, which hosts Vernon Hills tonight.
Chase finished with 13 points for Johnsburg (10-15).
