Aurora man charged with solicitation of a child

An Aurora man has been charged with indecent solicitation of a child and traveling to meet a minor, according to the Cook County State’s Attorney.

John E. Jones, 44, was arrested Wednesday as part of an investigation by the Cook County Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Cook County Judge Jill Cerone Marisie on Thursday ordered Jones held on $75,000 bond.

Responding to an Internet posting in December, Jones engaged in a sexually explicit conversation with someone he believed was a 13-year-old female named Tina, prosectutors said. They said Jones arranged to meet “Tina” at a Schiller Park convenience store, where police arrested him.

If convicted of the most serious charge, Jones faces two to five years in prison. Probation is also available. He next appears in court on March 6.
