Hampshire church works to help injured man

Zion United Methodist Church in Hampshire is organizing a charity dance and raffle Saturday, March 1 to benefit the family of Bob Pearson.

Pearson, winner of the Daily Herald’s 2011 Fittest Loser contest and a Hampshire resident, was involved in a serious automobile accident Oct. 26. He is married and has three boys.

As a result of the crash, in which a semi-truck hit his pickup truck, Pearson sustained fractured vertebrae, 12 broken ribs, damage to his lungs, multiple facial fractures, a broken shoulder and elbow.

The benefit costs $15 per person and will include live music from Drift Away composed of Kevin Miller and Brien Prenevost. The pair have been entertaining audiences since their sixth-grade sock hop in Hampshire. You may have seen them play Hampshire Coon Creek Country Days.

It will be held at the Fraternal Order Eagles Hall, 325 Raymond St. in Gilberts.

Tickets are available in Hampshire at Fifth Third Bank, 251 S. State St., Ohana Dollar Store, 129 S. State St. and Mid-Town Beauty Salon, 141 Maple St.

To date, $17,000 has been raised for the Pearson family, between jars set up all over town and various events. The goal is to raise $45,000 for the family’s living expenses.
