Decatur mom unveils childhood cancer license plate

SPRINGFIELD — A new license plate in Illinois to raise money for childhood cancer research will go into production if at least 1,500 orders are made.

A Decatur mother helped unveil the design for the specialty license plate Thursday in Springfield. It features a gold ribbon to symbolize childhood cancer awareness with colorful letters spelling out “Curing Childhood Cancer.”

The $50-per-order fee will go toward the Children’s Oncology Group and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which operates a clinic in Peoria.

Jennifer Pramuk of Decatur spearheaded the license plate idea after her daughter, Zoe, was treated successfully at Southern Illinois University HealthCare’s pediatric oncology clinic.

Specialty license plates can be ordered on the Secretary of State’s website.
