St. Charles streets reopen after water main breaks

Two water main breaks in St. Charles Friday morning resulted in road closures and, for some residents, loss of water pressure and/or rusty water — but they were fixed by 7 Friday night, police said.

The first man break occurred at approximately 7 a.m. on Riverside Avenue immediately north of Route 64. There was a brief disruption in water service after this break. The second main break occurred about 45 minutes later on Route 25 in the area between State and Park avenues.

City officials said residents in these areas might experience loss of water pressure or rusty water due to these breaks. Riverside Avenue was closed north of Main Street to Cedar Avenue to repair the water main and the street. Route 25 was down to one lane of traffic between Cedar Avenue and Park Avenue during repairs.
