Suburban bars amping up for Super Bowl viewing

This is the first year that a modern Super Bowl has been held outdoors in cold weather, and this brutal winter has made the very date subject to change. Luckily you only need to brave the elements long enough to get to a suburban sports bar, where you can warm up with some energetic cheering, hot wings and a beer.

Here are just a few of the bashes going on to celebrate the big game.

Assembly American Bar & Cafe, 2570 W. Hassell Road, Hoffman Estates, (847) 843-3993, assembly-bar.com: Specials include 25 cent wings and $2.50 Miller Lite bottles.

At the Post, 554 E. Devon, Elk Grove Village, (847) 364-0044, atthepostotb.com: Enjoy hot dogs and chili at halftime, $3 Tito's Vodka drinks and $13 domestic beer buckets. The bar will also hold raffles and giveaways throughout the game.

Coach's Corner Pizzeria and Sports Grill, 152 W. Biesterfield Road, Elk Grove Village, (847) 956-1818, dacoachs.com: A $40 package includes an open bar as well as a buffet with pizza, chicken wings, cheese sticks and more. Everyone who attends will be entered into the chance to win a 32-inch Toshiba TV. The full menu is also available for those who don't want the package. Reservations are recommended.

Kings Lanes, Lounge & Sports, 5505 Park Place, Rosemont, (847) 233-0099, kingsbowlamerica.com/rosemont: Bowl while you watch the Bowl on one of Kings' 60 HDTVs. Game day specials include an all-you-can-eat wings buffet, with the price dependent on the outcome of Groundhog Day. If the groundhog sees his shadow, the buffet will be $10; if not it will be $15. Other specials include a free cheese pizza with the purchase of large wings, half price nachos, $4.25 burgers, $1.50 pulled pork sliders and $10 Miller Lite buckets of four beers.

McQ's Sports Bar, 730 N. Bolingbrook Drive, Bolingbrook, (630) 739-1592, mcqsbar.com: Sign up in advance to guarantee a seat and get a $5 discount on their $40 package, which includes a barbecue buffet at halftime. You can leave a winner with the free raffles and Super Bowl Squares.

Mr. D's Sports Bar, 2200 W. Euclid Ave., Arlington Heights, (847) 870-6737, mrdsarlingtonpark.com: The bash kicks off at 4:30 p.m. with a $35 package including Miller and Coors drafts and a buffet of buffalo chicken sliders, barbecue baked beans, salsa, cookies and brownies. Everyone can join a squares pool for the chance to win prizes each quarter. The bar also hosts raffles throughout the game.

MT Barrels, 1712 W. Wise Road, Schaumburg, (847) 301-9800, mtbarrelsbar.com: For $5 you'll get three tickets into a raffle for a TV. The bar is also giving away football jerseys and offering half-price pizzas during the game. Drink specials include $2 Miller Lite drafts, $4 Svedka bloody marys and $3 Dickel whiskey.

North Side Sports Bar & Grill, 499 Pennsylvania Ave., Glen Ellyn, (630) 469-4602, northsidege.com: Feast on all-you-can-eat wings for $9.99 or an unlimited nacho and chili bar for $6.99. For every drink you buy to go with that hot food, you'll get a ticket into a raffle for Bears jerseys and memorabilia.

Players Pub & Grill, 1250 S. River Road, Prospect Heights, (847) 693-7323, playerspubgrill.com: Watch the game on a 120-inch TV and 25 other 50-inch sets while drinking $4 Bud Light mini-pitchers, $4 Fireball shots, $5 Absolut flavored cocktails and $15 domestic buckets. A free half-time buffet includes pizza, pasta and salad. From 4 to 8 p.m., you can order $6 bar bites and $5 bottomless homemade chips and salsa. If you want to kick off early, come for a $10 brunch buffet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. complete with $5 Absolut breakfast cocktails. The bar will also be offering giveaways throughout the game.

Pop's Pizza & Sports Bar, 817 E. Nerge Road, Roselle, (630) 980-0400, popspizzasportsbar.com: The bar is giving away a 60-inch TV, a signed jersey and other prizes throughout the game and offering a free half-time buffet with pizza, pasta and salad.

Ranchero's Mexican Grille and Cantina, 523 Fairway Drive, Naperville, (630) 355-1100, rancherosnaperville.com: The cantina offers $1 beef tacos and 50 cent wings from 2 to 5 p.m., and football fans can check out the free game buffet at 5.

Real Time Sports, 1120 W. Devon Ave., Elk Grove Village, (847) 534-5000, realtimesportsbar.com: A $45 package gets you domestic bottles, well drinks, bratwurst, burgers and hot dogs throughout the game. If you don't need that much, you can just take advantage of the $12 Miller buckets, $15 buckets of Mexican beer and $5 Jack Daniels cocktails. The bar's 40 TVs let you catch all the plays and you have a chance to win something yourself with giveaways every quarter.

Splinters Sports Pub, 2070 Rand Road, Palatine, (847) 991-0002, splintersportspub.com: Reservations are required for a party that includes a free half-time buffet of roast beef, broasted chicken, lasagna and more. Drink specials include $3.50 domestic drafts.

Tailgaters Sports Bar & Grill, 431 W. Boughton Ave., Bolingbrook, (630) 679-1994, tailgatersgrill.com: Graze on a buffet of chicken, pasta, wings and pizza while drinking Budweiser and Miller drafts with a $35 package that runs from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. The game screens on 40 TVs, and the bar is also offering raffles and giveaways.

Wickets Bar & Grill, 601 N. Martingale Road, Schaumburg, (847) 619-1400, wicketsbarandgrill.com: Catch every play on a 120-inch projector screen while enjoying 10 percent off all appetizers and flatbreads and $5 bloody marys and Blue Moon.
