Five accidents in Kane County due to weather conditions

The Kane County Sheriff’s Department had its hands full Thursday morning with multiple accidents that an official said were related to drifting snow.

Three separate accidents occurred at Square Barn and Huntley roads near Carpentersville, and two others happened at Route 20 and Plank Road in unincorporated Kane County near Elgin, Lt. Pat Gengler said.

At Huntley and Square Barn roads, one of the accidents involved a Jeep Cherokee that rolled over in the intersection at around 10:40 a.m. It did not result in any serious injuries, Gengler said.

Also at the intersection, a cable truck is stuck in a snowdrift, Gengler said. Gengler did not have any information about the third crash in the same area.

Huntley and Square Barn is one of most difficult intersections to navigate in the county during inclement weather, Gengler said. In this case, he said, drifting snow is covering ice on the road.

“Whether it’s a lot of snow or ice or even when it rains, we tend to get some slick conditions up there,” Gengler said. “That area just seems to have a lot of problems.”

Meanwhile, there was a crash at Route 20 and Plank Road at around 11:15 a.m. Also at the same intersection, another vehicle was off the road, Gengler said. Further information was not available about either crash.
