Two charged in Ingleside, Lake Villa home burglaries

Two men remained in custody Thursday on charges related to several residential burglaries in Ingleside and Lake Villa, authorities said.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s office, five residences in the two towns were burglarized beginning in December. Investigators developed information on a man who visited pawn shops throughout Lake County and attempted to sell items matching those taken during one of the burglaries.

Warrants were issued for two counts of theft each for George E. Tapia, 25, of Round Lake Heights, and Daniel Ortiz, 30, of Round Lake Beach. Both were taken into custody at their homes Jan. 18, police said.

About $10,000 in stolen jewelry and electronics was recovered, according to the sheriff’s office.

According to police, Tapia admitted to burglarizing five residences and was charged with five counts of residential burglary. Additional charges are pending against both men, police said.

Bond was set at $250,000 for each of the men, who remained jailed because they were unable to post the 10 percent needed to be released. Each is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 5.
