Meeting to discuss possible Batavia food co-op

The people trying to organize a cooperative grocery in Batavia are having a community outreach meeting Saturday.

The Green Tomato Grocery meeting is from 10 a.m. to noon at the Batavia Government Center, 100 N. Island Ave., according to a news release.

Organizers will explain what a co-op is and how one operates. An update on the progress of Green Tomato will be given.

They will also discuss the group’s committees and ownership opportunities.

Work toward a cooperative began in 2012, by people who want to improve their access to locally grown, organic, sustainably produced and sustainably delivered food. They want to provide bulk and fair-trade products, and offer education about whole-foods cooking, nutrition, supporting local commerce and responsible consumerism.
