Quinn says capital construction discussion ahead

Gov. Pat Quinn says there’s still time to address another capital construction program.

The Chicago Democrat outlined his plan to create jobs during the State of the State this week, including adding a small business advocate to his staff. But he didn’t mention a new job-creating capital construction project.

Quinn has often celebrated the state’s $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now as one of his top achievements. He signed the six-year capital construction project in 2009.

He told reporters Thursday the capital construction program should continue and that there’s still time to talk about it. In December, he told The Associated Press he expected to have that discussion in the spring.

Quinn spent Thursday promoting his new early-education initiative at learning centers in Rockford and Chicago.
