John Hersey High School presents ‘The Bully Plays’

John Hersey High School presents “The Bully Plays” 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Jan. 30-Feb. 1, in the school’s Black Box Theater, 1900 E. Thomas St., Arlington Heights. Matinee performances are scheduled for local junior high school students.

Compiled and edited by Linda Habjan, “The Bully Plays” is a collection of 10-minute plays that bring bullying to the forefront in constructive and creative ways, especially in this technological era.

Each scene challenges the audience to become more cognizant of the various types of bullying today and to become more engaged and actively aware of their own actions or lack thereof.

“This is a new era of bullying,” said director Lara Becker. “Often, school tragedies are equated with bullying. I like the show, because most of the scenes depict teens, and our students get to play the part of a teenager. Additionally, the topic resonates with our students and, hopefully, it will resonate with the audience, too.”

Tickets are $7 and can be purchased at the door or reserved by calling (847) 718-4882.
