Fast Facts: Two of the best players, and best teams, in Illinois meet at Glenbard East. Ulis is committed to Kentucky, while Brunson is among the best juniors in the nation. Marian has played all over the country, but has not lost to a team from Illinois. The past three weekends they have played in Michigan, Kentucky and Ohio. The trip to Kentucky made Ulis a folk hero in his future home as he dazzled. He is averaging 23.2 points, 7.0 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game. The school’s all-time leading scorer is only 60 points away from reaching 2,000 for his career. He is flanked by Parham, who is averaging 14.4 points per game. The Spartans won the McDipper Tournament for the second straight season in December. Two wins this weekend will help Marian top the best start in school history, which was set last year. Brunson led the Patriots to the state championship game as a sophomore and is among the state’s best. He is averaging 22.6 points per game and has 83 rebounds and 71 assists. Cashaw is his wingman, averaging 16.8 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Morrissey, the son of former Bears linebacker Jim Morrissey, is following in his father’s footsteps to play football at Michigan State in the fall. Stevenson’s only loss was to one of the northern suburb’s other powerhouses, Zion-Benton, in overtime.
