Girls basketball: Week 7 MVP

Huntley sophomore Ali Andrews has earned Daily Herald MVP honors for her recent girls basketball performances.

Ali Andrews, Huntley: As the Red Raiders continue to drive toward the Fox Valley Conference Valley Division championship, this 6-foot-2 sophomore came up big in two huge division games last week. She scored 25 points, and added 4 rebounds, 2 blocked shots and 2 steals in a 54-41 win over Crystal Lake South, then hit for 18 points with 10 rebounds, 6 blocks and 2 steals in a 48-38 victory over Cary-Grove. The wins kept Huntley undefeated in FVC Valley action.

Jennifer Deegan, Glenbard North: Deegan, a 5-foot-11 sophomore point guard for the Panthers, scored 27 points in a 58-52 DuPage Valley Conference victory against Lake Park. She also grabbed 8 rebounds and went 7 of 7 from the free-throw line in the game.

Jasmine Sangster, Grant: Bulldogs coach Matt Lukemeyer sang Sangster’s praises after her performance in a 76-57 win over Glenbrook North. The sophomore point guard posted career bests of 26 points and 11 assists, in addition to collecting 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Lukemeyer called it the best game of her career.

Liz Skaggs, West Aurora: The 5-foot-11 senior forward finished with double-doubles in both of West Aurora’s games last week. Skaggs had 11 points and 10 rebounds in a 2-point loss to Naperville North. She followed with 17 points and 10 rebounds in a 61-47 win over Lake Park.

Melissa Solorio, Elk Grove: The multi-sport, who also plays volleyball and soccer, showed her basketball skills with a game-high 22 points to help spark Elk Grove to a 56-55 win over visiting Buffalo Grove. In addition to 8 field goals, the senior forward was also perfect at the free throw line, where she went 6-for-6 as the Grens notched their first win the Mid-Suburban East.
