One person injured in blaze near Lincolnshire

An investigation continues into what caused a fire that led to one person suffering burn injuries in a house near Lincolnshire, authorities said.

Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District Deputy Chief Tony Ugaste said flames were shooting through the roof of the single-family house when emergency personnel arrived about 10:35 p.m. Monday. He said the affected home is in the 20000 block of Clarice Avenue in the Prairie View section of unincorporated Lake County.

“The home was fully involved,” Ugaste said Tuesday. “We couldn’t get into it.”

Ugaste said the probe into what caused the blaze “may take a while.” He said officials have yet to calculate a preliminary damage total for the home and its contents.

No firefighters were injured while battling the blaze. The injured individual was taken to Highland Park Hospital, officials said.

Ugaste said one hydrant near the home was broken, but another in the vicinity was used and did not pose any problems for firefighters. He said crews also needed to maneuver around some downed power lines in the home’s back yard.

Firefighters from other nearby suburbs were called to help Lincolnshire-Riverwoods at the scene, Ugaste said, because the frigid temperature dictated a need to rotate crews more frequently.
