Clinton Lake fish kill blamed on water temps

Wildlife officials say changes in water temperature are to blame for a central Illinois fish kill.

The (Bloomington) Pantagraph reports more than 5,300 dead fish were found this week in Clinton Lake. The dead fish included walleye, bass, crappie and channel catfish.

Tim Schweizer is a spokesman for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

He says abrupt changes in water temperature “are not uncommon at a power plant lake.”

The DeWitt County lake is near one of Exelon’s nuclear power plants.
