Show the kids you care

“Strike, Split or Spare – Show the Kids You Care!” has been the rallying cry for the Lutherbrook Bowl-A-Rama since it began more than 25 years ago. And it's no less pertinent today than it was at the first Bowl-A-Rama. Why is that?

Lutherbrook Child and Adolescent Center in Addison is a place of hope. Youth there have experienced multiple complex traumas in their young lives and many have had numerous foster care and other placements and struggled to be successful in family and community living. Understandably, they have a great deal of difficulty building trusting relationships with adults and peers.

At Lutherbrook, youth begin the process of healing. They receive therapy to work through their past traumas, develop coping skills to ensure positive future outcomes and engage in activities that build their own strengths. Most importantly, youth at Lutherbrook learn to connect with others, begin to trust again and feel that they belong.

After their stay at Lutherbrook, most youth go on to live in a family setting and are able to sustain that placement. Unfortunately state funding does not cover the entire cost of providing this transformational care and private support is crucial.

The Lutherbrook Bowl-A-Rama helps support the work and share the mission of Lutherbrook. This year it will be held on one day, Sunday, February 9, 2014, with two shifts: 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. and 2:45 to 4:45 p.m. Join us for a fun-filled afternoon of bowling for a great cause. The event takes place at Stardust Bowl, 37 E. Lorraine, in Addison.

You can register online by going to www.lcfs.org/bowlarama or calling 708-488-5558. Bowling is free, but you must register before January 31, 2014. Early registration is encouraged because space is limited.

You can make your participation even more meaningful by collecting pledges that will be used to help provide life-changing services to the youth at Lutherbrook. If you raise $50 or more, you'll receive a Bowl-A-Rama t-shirt. Go to www.lcfs.org/bowlarama to set up a personalized fundraising page to raise pledges online from friends and family or to download a pledge form.
