Senior Star and Walgreens Team Up for Innovative New Program

Senior Star at Weber Place is pleased to announce today an innovative pilot program that is the first of its kind in the Chicago area – the Live Well with Walgreens speakers’ series. As part of a new ongoing educational partnership with Walgreens, Senior Star at Weber Place will host expert pharmacists who will present a variety of health topics for the community throughout the year. This new program is being initiated at all 12 Senior Star communities throughout the United States in 2014.

The Chicago program, on eye health, will be launched on Wednesday, January 22 at 11:30 a.m. at Senior Star at Weber Place, 605 South Edward Drive, Romeoville. A pharmacist from Walgreens will speak about the importance of eye health including subtopics such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy and preventative eye care focusing on symptoms, vitamin supplements and treatment options. The presentation will be followed by a question and answer session. Lunch will be served at 12:15 p.m. for those who would like to stay. A unique aspect to this series is that Senior Star is offering complementary transportation for people who are unable to travel due to limited vision or inclement weather.

“We are excited to partner with a quality corporation like Walgreens. Their reputation and expertise brings a wealth of knowledge to the residents of Romeoville and beyond, and we are pleased to align ourselves with an organization that mirrors our philosophy of providing and promoting better health,” said Michelle Franzak, executive director of Senior Star at Weber Place. “Together, I know we can accomplish great things for our community and we are proud to be a leader in offering this type of program. We hope the greater Romeoville community will join us each month for these key health topics.”

Added local Walgreens Pharmacy Manager, Trisha Holder, “We believe that seniors who are well educated about health related issues that can affect them as they age are in a better position to take a more proactive approach to living well. When looking for strategic partners to help us provide this program, Senior Star’s educational model for retirement living is an excellent fit with Walgreens Well Initiative. We are pleased to engage in this exciting new venture to create a healthier community together.”

An RSVP is requested by January 20. Please call 815-439-9955 to reserve your space and/or request a pick up from your home.
