Schaumburg A.M. Rotary sponsors Frost Jr. High Interact Club

The Rotary Club of Schaumburg A.M. recently became the proud sponsor of the Interact Club of Robert Frost Jr. High School.

Jeff Winkenwerder, Schaumburg A.M. Rotary President, Youth Service Director Tim Gerhardt and Rotarian Brendan Connolly inducted six Frost eight grade students as the Interact club's board of directors, in addition to Julie Basch, Special Services Teacher, who is one of three adult advisers for the club.

Frost Principal Scott Ross expressed his thanks to Schaumburg A.M. Rotarians for their support of this student-led organization and encouraged the student leaders to model the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self” within their club while planning and participating in fun and meaningful service projects that provide the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others, with the added benefit of making new friends at the same time.

Interact is Rotary International's world-wide service club for young people ages 12 to 18. Interact clubs are sponsored by individual local Rotary clubs, which provide support and guidance, but they are self-governing and self-supporting.

Interact is one of the most significant and fastest-growing programs of Rotary, with more than 10,700 clubs in 109 countries and geographical areas. Almost 200,000 young people are involved in Interact. Frost's Interact Club, with 121 members, is the school's largest extracurricular organization.

Frost Jr. High School, located in Schaumburg, is one of five junior high schools in School District 54 with a current enrollment of 588 students. In 2011 this school was recognized for its academic achievement and educational excellence by being named a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Dept. of Education.

Schaumburg A.M. Rotary meets every Wednesday morning from 7:00 – 8:30 am at the Bridges Poplar Creek Country Club in Hoffman Estates. For more information visit www.schaumburgamrotary.org.
