Chili Open draws 53 golfers in Des Plaines

Dozens of golfers braved slushy conditions and temperatures in the mid-30s Saturday during the Chili Open at the Golf Center in Des Plaines. So that they could find their balls, golfers used color golf balls with ribbons attached as they played the snowy course.

Brian Panek, manager of golfing facilities, said 53 participants signed up for Saturday’s event. Considering that it was minus 11 degrees outside Monday, he was happy to get that number of golfers, though it was fewer than participated last year.

“The weather last year on this day was in the mid-50s,” Panek said.

The Chili Open was for all golfers ages 8 years and older, who enjoyed nine holes of golf at Golf Center Des Plaines, prizes, raffles, and a chili lunch courtesy of Club Casa.
