Maywood man gets life sentence for aunt’s beating death
A Maywood man has been sentenced to life in prison for the beating death of his elderly aunt.
The Cook County state’s attorney’s office says 56-year-old David Brown of Maywood was sentenced late Wednesday. He was previously convicted of first-degree murder in the October 2009 death of 81-year-old Gertrude Franklin of LaGrange Park.
Authorities say Brown assaulted Franklin, beating her in the head with a ceramic coffee mug. They say Brown then robbed her of jewelry and her car. He was later arrested when he crashed the car into a tree.
Franklin died of cranial cerebral injuries several weeks after the attack.
