Highland Park Hospital proposes $74 million upgrade

Highland Park Hospital is planning a $74 million upgrade over the next three years.

The Lake County News-Sun reports that Highland Park Hospital's modernization will begin later this year with interior remodeling. New construction adding 45,000 square feet would begin in the summer of 2015, pending approval by state regulators.

The number of inpatient beds at the hospital would remain at the current level of 149. The project would expand and upgrade operating rooms and make the labor and delivery area more efficient.

Highland Park Hospital is part of NorthShore University HealthSystem, which also runs facilities in Evanston, Glenbrook and Skokie.

Highland Park Hospital's proposal is tentatively scheduled for a hearing before the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board on April 22.
