Man accused of recording woman in Elmhurst Hospital washroom sentenced

A Franklin Park man was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty to using a cellphone camera last May to videotape a woman in a restroom at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.

DuPage County Judge George Bakalis sentenced Salvador Perez, 50, of the 2500 block of Sonia Avenue, to 30 days in DuPage County jail and two years of sex offender probation during which his Internet use will be monitored. With good behavior, Perez will serve half the sentence.

Prosecutors said Perez went to the hospital May 7 and hid a cellphone camera under the sink in a unisex restroom to record people using the toilet.

A woman alerted authorities after the camera fell from the sink while she was using the bathroom, authorities said.

In addition to footage of the victim, prosecutors said the phone also contained video of Perez installing the cellphone under the sink.

Since his arrest, Perez had been placed on GPS monitoring and ordered to have no contact with minors. He also is barred from entering Elmhurst Memorial Hospital and any schools or day care centers.
