Children's museum hosts program for kids to explore science principals
Little fingers tinkered with gears, pegs and plastic pipe during a Busy Brains Children's Museum program at the Lake Villa District Library on Friday morning.
Ten activity stations allowed children to explore various science principals.
“The children love to interact and play. The most wonderful thing about it is they are learning at the same time,” Busy Brains co-founder Kathy Goers said.
One of the most popular exhibits was the Bernoulli box, which teaches children about air flow and how airplanes stay aloft. Ping-Pong balls are kept aloft on tubes of blowing air.
Other popular exhibits include Gearocity, which allows kids to explore the concepts of radial motion by turning an endless design of meshing gears, and another area where kids make structures using plastic pipe and connectors.
For the last 10 years, Busy Brains has been a mobile museum. However, the not-for-profit organization has recently secured a 14,000-square-foot building in downtown Lake Villa as its permanent site. Organizers anticipate open the facility in about 18 months as they look for funding.
