Rauner adds $4 million to campaign fund

Republican governor candidate Bruce Rauner says he raised more than $4 million for his campaign during the final three months of 2013.

The tally includes $1 million that the wealthy businessman contributed to his own campaign.

Rauner faces three challengers in the March GOP primary: state Sens. Bill Brady and Kirk Dillard and state Treasurer Dan Rutherford. The winner will likely face Gov. Pat Quinn in the general election.

In a news release Thursday, Rauner says he received more than 1,500 donations and tripled his best previous fundraising quarter. He says it’s a sign he’s the only candidate who can “go toe-to-toe” with Quinn in November.

The other candidates haven’t released their quarterly numbers. Campaign finance disclosure reports are due to the state by Jan. 15.
