Kids get early start at Vaughan Athletic Center

While a constant slew of joggers circled the elevated track Tuesday trying to get a head start on New Year’s resolutions, an estimated 750 parents and children also started their New Year’s Eve activities early at the Vaughan Athletic Center in Aurora.

The sixth annual Family New Year’s Eve Party featured climbing and bouncing on giant inflatables, interactive games, hula hoop contests, kid fit demos, volleyball and dancing to the latest tunes with a live DJ.

“This event gives kids their own celebration,” Fox Valley Park District recreation supervisor Laureen Baumgartner said. “They don’t have to stay up until midnight to enjoy a New Year’s party.”

The New Year’s countdown featured a balloon drop at noon.

“I love it” remarked fitness instructor Jodi Doty between bouts of leading dance moves to the Macarena and other favorites.

It’s just incredible. The kids just have a ball,” Doty said.
