Jerry Turnquist to speak to Elgin Lions Club Jan. 7

Local historian, Jerry Turnquist, will speak to the Elgin Lions Club at their meeting on January 7th. The meeting is at 6:15 PM at the American Legion Hall a5 820 N. Liberty St. in Elgin. The public is invited.

Mr. Turnquist is a columnist and author of a regular Elgin/Fox Valley history column in the Daily Herald. He is an interesting and engaging speaker.

The meeting is open to the public. Those wishing to attend are asked to notify the club on the Elgin Lions Club's phone answering service at 847-289-4206 and leave a message.

It is a meal meeting. The cost for the meal is $15, but attendees do not need to partake of the meal. When leaving the message, please indicate if a meal is desired. Advance notification is necessary to provide adequate seating and meals.

The Elgin Lions Club has been collecting non-perishable food items from local elementary schools. The children and their parents have been very generous in providing food for the less fortunate in the community. The latest figures on the collections indicate that approximately 7,500 food items have been collected so far this fall and early winter. The items have been taken to the Elgin Community Crisis Center.

The club is interested in gaining new members so that they can do even more for the community and request that anyone interested please attend this meeting.
