At the relay events, teams of walkers spend the night taking turns walking around the high school's track, with at least one team member always in motion while other team members camp out around the track. Money is raised through donations solicited by walkers before the event. Over the years, relays across the nation reportedly have raised over $5 billion for cancer research.
