After shooting pictures and video for a recent story about an Elburn family’s Christmas light display that has over one million lights, I began to wonder if I should bother to put my several hundred up at all. After a couple inches of snow covered the lights on my bushes, I thought it looked like an overhead view of a technicolor brain. Now it was worth it.   When I went out to take pictures of Christmas lights being put up on trees in downtown Wheaton, I decided to make a silhouette tell the story. I was struck by how the cherry picker was reaching up toward one of the branches which seemed to angle down to the worker. The clouds worked to add a nice backdrop. This sort of photo was more graphically interesting than a ground-level shot which would have had complicated and distracting backgrounds.
