Sugar Grove basketball camp helps kids hone basketball skills over the holidays

The Sugar Grove Park District is keeping young basketball players busy over the holidays with a preregistered three-day basketball camp for kids in first through fifth grades. The camp, run by All Star Sports Instruction, started Thursday and runs through Saturday, helping players hone their skills as well as learn new techniques and strategies through drills and games. Eight boys and one girl gathered in the gym at Kaneland John Shields Elementary in Sugar Grove to practice dribbling, passing, shooting and then divided into two teams for a full court basketball game. Madison Kozlowski, 10, of Aurora, has been playing basketball for about three years and has participated in a basketball camps before. She said the skill she learned on the first day was how to successfully block another player on the court. But her favorite part of the camp was shooting for the hoop, which was understandably so as the activity was kept fun by using games as part of the instruction.

For more information on future camps and programs, contact the Sugar Grove Park District at (630) 466-7436 or register online at sgparks.org.
