Groups can apply for Rotary Club of Palatine grant

The Rotary Club of Palatine is currently accepting applications from organizations for possible donations from the club. Organizations applying for funding support from the Rotary Club of Palatine should be tax exempt under Section 501(C)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Monies to be distributed were raised during the 2013 Oktoberfest celebration held the weekend of Sept. 20-22, in downtown Palatine.

“We had a fantastic Oktoberfest in 2013, made even more tremendous with the amount of money raised for those in need,” said Oliver Girke, chairman of the allocations committee. “It’s a great feeling to be part of an organization that can give back so much, especially when so many have had to cut back.”

The 2013 donation is one of the largest allocation amounts raised and given out by the Rotary Club of Palatine in a single year. Girke also pointed out that all applications will be considered for funding, but funding is not guaranteed.

Organizations interested in receiving a charitable allocation should submit their application no later than Friday, Jan. 24. Applications are available at the Rotary Club of Palatine’s Facebook page or by contacting Girke at oliveregirke@aol.com.

The Official Allocation Handover Ceremony will be between 5:30-9 p.m. on Friday, Feb 21, at Falcon Park Recreation Center, 2195 N. Hicks Road in Palatine.

President Chuck Young invites interested men and women of the Palatine community to learn more about Rotary.

“Those interested in joining our dynamic service organization are welcome to come and learn more about the good work that Rotary does both in our community and around the globe,” said Young.

Rotary is a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, and helps build goodwill and peace in the world. The Rotary Club of Palatine represents a cross-section of the community’s business and professional men and women.

The main objective of Rotary is service — in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world. Rotarians develop community service projects that address many of today’s most critical issues, such as children at risk, poverty and hunger, the environment, illiteracy and violence. They also support programs for youth, including leadership and educational opportunities and international exchanges for students, teachers and other professionals, and vocational and career development.

The Rotary motto is “Service Above Self.”

The Rotary Club Of Palatine meets 7:15 p.m. every Tuesday at The Red Apple, 2121 Plum Grove Road, in Palatine. For more information visit the club online at www.PalatineRotary.com.
