DePaul’s January earns Big East hoops honor

DePaul freshman guard Jessica January was named the Big East Conference Freshman of the Week on Monday. The Richfield, Minn. native, averaged 10.0 points per game in DePaul’s four wins last week.

January scored 12 points in victories over Pittsburgh and Louisiana-Monroe. The freshman had a career-day against ULM and recorded a team-best and career-high eight rebounds. She also added a season-high four steals and two, 3-pointers.

January averaged 23.0 minutes, shot .378 (14-of-37) from the floor and added 4.5 rebounds per game.

One of the first options off the bench for the Blue Demons, January helped DePaul to the Duel in the Desert title with wins of Pittsburgh, Washington and ULM. The Blue Demons also defeated Dartmouth last week.

St. John’s guard, Aliyyah Handford was named the league’s Player of the Week.
